Shire of Melton

The Shire of Melton is a Local Government Area in Victoria, Australia. It is located in the outer western suburbs of Melbourne. It has an area of 530 square kilometres. In 2001 it had a population of 46,000. The Shire is governed by a shire council which consists of seven councillors each elected from one of seven wards. The councillors elect a Mayor from among the council's members. The council is responsible for local services such as the local library, rubbish collection, local roads and parks.
