Shonisaurus popularis is the state fossil of Nevada. It became the state's fossil in 1984, and is another name for the Ichthyosaur fossils found in Nevada's Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park. It was dubbed Shonisaurus popularis after the Shoshone Mountain range in which they were found. They are among the largest specimens ever found, reaching 50 feet in length.
