is an eroge made by Navel for the Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 2 (by Kadokawa Shoten) platforms. It has also been adapted into a 24 episode anime series, which was shown on the WOWOW television network from July 7, 2005 to January 5, 2006.
There is also an official manga named "Days in the Bloom." It is another adaption from the game and was released before the anime, but it is still running. It is serialized in Comptiq (a monthly magazine covering all things bishoujo). As well as the manga and anime being based off the game, there are also Shuffle! characters novels (light novels), which contain one continuous storyline, and two spin-off games - Tick! Tack!, and Really? Really!.

Synopsis

(Note that names are written in Western order.)

Seventeen-year-old high school student Rin Tsuchimi lives in a world where a gateway connected the world of the gods and the world of the demons to the human world, enabling the gods and demons to coexist happily with each other and with the mortals. The gods and demons referred in this series, however, are not immortals, but simply names for two different races. "Gods" are beings with slightly pointed ears and the ability to wield "god" (i.e. healing) magic, whereas "demons" are beings with elongated, pointed ears and the ability to wield "demon" (i.e. destructive) magic.

One day, the ruling family of gods and the ruling family of demons move to either sides of Rin's home. Rin is told by the two families' patriarchs that he is a "marriage candidate" for both Lisianthus, the princess of the god race, and Nerine, the princess of the demon race. This selection is intensified by the fact that these two are not only princesses but also are good friends and have both met him in the past on separate occasions.

Complicating things further are Rin's childhood friend and housemate Kaede Fuyou, Rin's senior Asa Shigure, and the mysterious and almost completely silent demoness Primula.

Characters

The story is divided into "story arcs" that deal with each of the girls' history and why they love Rin. In the game, Rin (the player) gets to choose which girl he goes and dates with throughout the whole game, although he will encounter the stories of the other girls at one point or another. In the anime, these stories are intertwined into one central storyline and ending.

NOTE: The descriptions in the profiles below are based on the central storyline of the anime.

Main characters

Lisianthus is the princess of the god race. She came to the human world as a possible marriage candidate for Rin. She is energetic, enthusiastic and often quite outgoing. She excels in cooking but does poorly in academics.
Nerine/Rin
Nerine is the princess of the demon race. She also came to the human world as a possible marriage candidate for Rin. She possesses extremely powerful demon magic and has the potential to level several city blocks. She is poorly skilled at cooking but tries her best for Rin. She excels at academics.
Primula is a mysterious girl who came from the demon world in search for Rin. She was acquainted with Nerine while in the demon world. Even though she lived in the demon world, Primula is an artificial life form.
Kaede Fuyou is Rin's childhood friend who grew up with him in the same house after her mother and Rin's parents died in a car accident. Some time after they started junior high school, Kaede started taking care of Rin. She single-handedly does all the housework, and cooks every meal for Rin.
Asa Shigure is a very energetic girl who lives her life to the fullest and always slaps Rin on the back. She first met Rin in junior high school when Kaede joined the cooking class. Rin, later on, ended up spending a lot of time at her house whenever Kaede was learning to cook there. It was around this time that she fell in love with Rin.
Rin Tsuchimi is a seventeen-year-old high school student and the male protaganist to the series.

Other characters

Kareha
Kareha belongs to the God race. As Asa's best friend, she is often seen walking with her. She has a younger sister named Tsubomi who briefly appears in episode 22. She has a tendency of what the characters call "going into fantasy world", in which, her eyes lose focus and she zones out, imagining romantic scenes for people based on something suggestive that they accidentally said. She has a weakness for cute dresses or waitresses outfits and works in a cafe as a waitress. She also has a crush on Rin which she reveals later in the series.
Mayumi Thyme
Mayumi Thyme is a girl in Rin's class with a rather small bust, but she makes up for it in spirit. Mayumi enjoys pretending to be a reporter and is always after the "latest scoop". She is always seen with her digital camera and occasionally plans schemes with Itsuki.

Itsuki Midoriba
Itsuki Midoriba is Rin's best friend and classmate. Being the Don Juan of the class, he is always mentioning to Rin that he will "take good care" of the girls that he doesn't choose. Academically, he is at the top of the class along with Nerine and Kaede. He is slightly envious of Rin in that he has three princesses (Kaede being the "school princess" and Sia and Nerine being the others) chasing after him. However, when the time comes, he'll help Rin pull out of tough situations such as avoiding the defense forces.
Nadeshiko Benibara
Nadeshiko Benibara is Rin's homeroom teacher. She is single, attractive, and is frequently (albeit accidentally) the victim of Itsuki's pickup lines. She constantly yells at Rin whenever he spaces out in class.
Tsubomi
Tsubomi is Kareha's little sister. Like Kareha, Tsubomi also has a habit of cooking up absurd fantasies and says "Kyaa!" when she is excited ("Kyakyakyaa!" when she's very excited). Her hobbies include writing romance novels.
Handkerchief man
Whenever the defense forces chase after Rin, this man is shown in the background, half-hidden behind some obstacle, crying, and biting a handkerchief.
Masato
Masato is a blue-haired boy, around 10 years of age, who for reasons unknown enjoys lifting a girls' skirts and seeing their underwear. His ears are that of a demon.
He makes random and frequent cameo appearances in the Shuffle! universe. His victims of skirt-lifting include Kareha and Mayumi.
His first appearance in the game Shuffle! was when Kareha was working as a waitress at the cafe and the boy ambushed her from behind and lifted her skirt. His name is revealed as Masato as his mother tells him to stop lifting Kareha's skirt.
He has also appeared in the game Soul Link, and Tick! Tack! in which again, he lifts a demoness's skirt.
Ama Shigure
Ama Shigure is Asa's mother and a skilled cook. She is well-known with her "cat-ear hat" which she wears all the time to hide her demon ears.

Defense Forces

KKK defense force
KKK is an acronym for Kitto Kitto Kaede Defense Force which translates to "Surely Surely Kaede". The organization is composed of a group of Rin's jealous schoolmates who are attracted to Kaede. They frequently appear to chase Rin around the school as comic relief.
RRR defense force
RRR is an acronym for Ran Ran Nerine which translates to "Beautiful Nerine". The RRR defense force is a new jealous defense group formed in episode 2 after Nerine arrives. The theme of this defense force is having members who are jocks (i.e. guys dressed as if in the military).
SSS defense force
SSS is an acronym for Suki Suki Sia which translates to "Love Love Sia". The SSS defense force is a jealous defense group formed for Lisianthus. The theme of this defense force is having members who are part of a sports team (i.e. the table tennis team, the cycling team).
