Sida (genus)

Encyclopedia : S : SI : SID : Sida (genus)

Sida is a genus of 125 to 150 species of herbs or subshrubs in the Mallow family (Malvaceae). These plants are of worldwide distribution, mostly found in the tropics and subtropics, although some species extend into temperate regions. The name "Sida" was adopted by Carolus Linnaeus from the writings of Theophrastus, who used it for Nymphaea alba.

Sida species are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including Chionodes mariona.
