Chōkōji was a castle captured by Oda Nobunaga from the Rokkaku (Sasaki) family. The Rokkaku tried to take it back in 1570, cutting off the water supply, and placing the castle under siege. Shibata Katsuie, the commander entrusted with defending the castle led his forces in sallying out of the castle to face the besiegers, succeeding in the end.
