Sigma Tau Gamma Foundation

Encyclopedia : S : SI : SIG : Sigma Tau Gamma Foundation

Sigma Tau Gamma Foundation was created December 10, 1966 and was established as a 501(c) tax-exempt organization.

Forward looking leaders of Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity correctly foresaw that the fraternity could not effectively meet the needs of its college members without the charitable support of its alumni and friends. In this vision, Sigma Tau Gamma was not unique among the American College Fraternities. In fact, virtually all fraternities would eventually establish a foundation of their own.

Gifts of property to the Foundation are not subject to gift taxes and bequests are exempt from estate and inheritance taxes. Charitable contributions to the Foundation are deductible within limits in determining taxable income for the person. Gifts of securities may allow deduction of appreciated value to the time of the gift without one paying capital gains taxes.
