Sikorsky S-62
Encyclopedia : S : SI : SIK : Sikorsky S-62
The Sikorsky Model S-62 is a single turbine engine, single rotor amphibious helicopter originally developed as a commercial venture by the Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation of Stratford, Connecticut. A number of aircraft were bought for the US Coast Guard for use as a search and rescue helicopter by the US Navy Bureau of Aeronautics and designated the HU2S-1G.
The HU2S-1G used a boat hulled shaped fuselage, smaller but similar to the Navy twin turbine engine HSS-2 (Sikorsky Model S-61,) and was employed aboard the larger Coast Guard cutters and icebreakers. The S-62 used the same engine as used on the HSS-2, a 1250 hp General Electric T58-GE-8 turbo shaft engine. The HU2S-1G was re-designated the HH-52A.
