David "Sinbad" Adkins on November 10, 1956) is an American actor and stand-up comedian.
Sinbad is the permanent host of Showtime at the Apollo (formerly It's Showtime At The Apollo), returning to the position in 2006 after a 15-year absence. He had originally hosted from 1989 to 1991 and was the temporary host in 2005 while regular host Mo'Nique was on maternity leave.
Sinbad was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan to Rev. Dr. Donald and Louise Adkins. He attended college between 1974 and 1978 at the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado where he lettered two seasons for the basketball team. Under the professional name Sinbad, he began his career in the 1980s, appearing on Star Search and The Redd Foxx Show.
At one time, Sinbad hosted his own talk show, VIBE. He is well known for portraying the goofy coach Walter Oakes on A Different World (a spinoff of The Cosby Show). He also had his own show, "The Sinbad Show", in the early 1990's on Fox (when Fox was still an up-and-coming network). It was a story about a young African-American bachelor who adopts two young children, a boy (co-starring Ray-J) and his little sister. The show proved to be family-worthy, but was cancelled due to low ratings. He was also featured in an infomercial for Tae Bo.
He is number 78 on Comedy Central's list of the 100 greatest standups of all time. However, a 2006 Maxim magazine reader poll selected Sinbad as the "Worst Comedian of All Time." [link]

Trivia
- Guest-starred on an episode of Nickelodeon's All That. In one sketch, he played the father of recurring character Ishbu, humorously dubbed "Sinbu".
