The Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO; Chinese: 新加坡华乐团, Pinyin: Xīnjiāpō hùalètuán) is Singapore’s only professional Chinese orchestra. The Orchestra was inaugurated in 1996 at the initiative of the former Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong. Its maestro is Tsung Yeh since 2002.

The main performance centre of the orchestra is at the refurbished Singapore Conference Hall in Shenton Way. It has seventy members in total and had its very first tour to Budapest, London and Newcastle in Europe in 2005. The Singapore Chinese Orchestra claims to be one of the leading Chinese orchestras in the world.

History

Singapore Chinese Youth Orchestra

The Singapore Chinese Orchestra set up an orchestra for youths, the Singapore Chinese Youth Orchestra. The youth orchestra gives younger musicians a chance to work with music talents in the Singapore Chinese Orchestra while training for the future. The conductor for the youth orchestra is Quek Ling Kiong.
