Encyclopedia : S : SI : SIN : Singingfish

Singingfish, also known as Singing Fish is an audio/video search engine. It has been incorporated into AOL audio video search (in November 2003).

One of the oldest search engines dedicated to multimedia content. Singingfish lets users locate audio or video files from across the web. It discovers these in the same way that Google locates HTML files, by employing a spider to crawl the web. The company also accepts "feeds," where content providers tell it directly about the files they have.

Current list of partner feeds:

AOL uses Singingfish technology to power the audio/video section of AOL Search (www.aolsearch.com), while Microsoft and Real Networks use Singingfish technology to power audio and video searches in their respective media players and accompanying Web sites. Singingfish has an index of more than 16 million audio and video files.
