The series premiered on April 1, 1994 as a mid-season replacement on ABC, and continued on that network until the series moved to The WB in September 1995 after ABC cancelled the show. The show aired its series finale on May 23, 1999. Reruns used to air on Disney Channel at 6:30 before That's So Raven's double episodes, but when [[The Suite Life of Zack and Cody took their spot, Phil of The Future was pushed to 7:00 (Hannah Montana) and That's So Raven at 6:00, they were moved to 1:00 on Disney Channel's late night hours.
History/Plot
In the pilot, the twins reunited during a chance encounter clothes shopping at the mall with their adoptive parents Lisa and Ray, following an incident where the store's manager became confused thinking Tia and Tamera were the same person while assisting them.Tia Landry was the studious twin from the streets of Detroit, where her mother Lisa worked as a seamstress; Tamera Campbell was the boy-crazy from the suburbs, where her father Ray owned a limousine service. After their unexpected encounter in the department store, Ray reluctantly allowed Tia and Lisa to move into his home for the girls' sake. The girls' neighbor was Roger Evans, an annoying kid who was infatuated with them both, which spawned the catch phrase, "go home, Roger!"
By the 1996-1997 season, Tia and Tamera straightened their hair and abandoned their plaid hats and other noted wardrobe they frequently wore in the first three seasons for a new look. Also, Ray and Lisa began a romance in season four which was short-lived. There were hints to a possible romance between the two in earlier episodes. Example: "The Concert" from season one, in which Lisa and Ray inadvertently kissed.
In the 1997-1998 season, Tia started dating Tyreke Scott, a reformed street kid who worked as a mechanic for Ray, and Jordan Bennett became Tamera's boyfriend. Roger (Marques Houston) was suddenly dropped from the cast at this point and his role on the series would decrease this season based on two real-life situations: his mother's death from cancer, and the prospect of getting his own show with his musical group Immature, later named IMx.
The final season showed the twins entering college with their boyfriends and their best friend Diavian. The girls were ultimately reunited with their birth father, and Lisa married her boyfriend Victor in the final episode. Roger also makes one last appearance in the last episode singing at Lisa's wedding.
Theme song
The series was noted for its theme song written and composed by Tim Heintz, Randy Petersen and Kevin Quinn. Three versions of the original theme song were used from April 1994 to May 1997.The website Sitcoms Online [] has the third version of this theme in video form with the season three opening credits and the fourth version in audio only. This and other TV music sites do not have the full version from season one or the shortened version used in the second season.
A new version of the show's theme was used starting in season five composed by Heintz, Petersen, Quinn and Kurt Farquhar, who composed the music for the series, save for season three which the music was composed by Paul A. Kreiling, and performed by Tia and Tamera Mowry. And also they had new videos each seasons.
