Sky Travel

Sky Travel is a channel from BSkyB that shows extensive programmes about travel, adverts for travel agencies, and documentries.
History
The channel launched in August 1994, and became part of Sky Multichannels. Originally it shared the same channel space as Sky Soap, Sky Sports 2, The History Channel, Sci-Fi Channel, and The Christian Channel. It was on weekdays for five hours from 7am until September 1997, when it began sharing with Sky Movies Gold, again on weekdays for five hours, but from 11am. In 2001 the channel started broadcasting 7 days a week from 6am until 11pm, and from 2004 it began broadcasting for 24 hours. It was also one of those who launched with Freeview on 30 October 2002, as part of a package of three channels committed to the platform by BSkyB.Changes on Freeview
In 2004 Sky Travel showed the first two episodes of the forth season of US drama 24, simulcasting with BSkyB's primary channel, Sky One. This led to rumours that the company had planned to turn Sky Travel into a general entertainment channel on Freeview. However, BSkyB's CEO, James Murdoch, had repeatedly denied the company had any plans to launch any new free-to-air services.BSkyB's stance on the subject has since changed. On 22 September 2005, it was announced that Sky Travel would be replaced on Freeview by new entertainment channel Sky Three. Although some of Sky Travel's programming will form part of the schedule of Sky Three, Sky Travel itself will still be shown on Sky Digital and Cable. Sky Travel ceased to be broadcast on Freeview at 5pm on 31 October 2005.
