MALDINI SLOBODAN

Architect, writer, painter and theoretician of architecture. Born 1956 in Ruma (Serbia), graduated architecture in Belgrade 1980. 1978 studied Palladian architecture in Vicenza (Italy) at prof. James S. Ackermann (Harvard University) and prof. Wolfgang Lotz (Cambridge, Mass.) Some of his early works containe eclectic references influenced by the ideas of postmodern architecture in America. In 1982-88 realized three great monuments in Kosovo, but the monument un Klina was destroyed 1990 on demand of Slobodan Milosevic, who did not agree its "secret symbolism", while another monuments were destroyed by Albanians from Kosovo, surprisingly, for the same reasons. In the period of '80, Maldini was considered as the most outstanding representative of post modern architecture in Serbia. In that period, he made many exhibitions, among them was the famous exhibition made together with his professor Bogdan Bogdanovic and his 90 years old profesor Aleksandar Deroko. 1985 Maldini took part in "Biennale de Paris, together with other icons of architecture, such as: Aldo Rossi, Tadao Ando, Mario Botta, Ralph Erskine, Norman Foster, Frank O. Gehry, Fumihiko Maki, Rafael Moneo, Murphy/Jahn, Renzo Piano, Zaha Hadid, Richard Rogers and others. He wrote several books, among them most important is "Encyclopedia of architecture" in two volumes, vith over 30.500 entries, the most comprehensive and up-to-date encyclopedia of architecture in paperback. With over 6.000 illustrations, this book covers architecture, town planning, design, interior design and other related arts and sciences. The book "Shadows of Gods" is history of town planning, that Maldini wrote 1981, but published later, 2004. In the period 2000-06, Maldini was teaching theory of architectural design on the Faculty of Architecture in Novi Sad.
