The Slovak Ore Mountains (Slovak: Slovenské rudohorie) are an extensive mountainous region in Slovakia in the Carpathians. In the geomorphological system, the Slovak Ore Mountains are an "area" of the "subprovince" called Inner Western Carpathians.

It is bounded by Zvolen in the west, Košice in the east, the Hron river and the Hornád river in the north and the Southern Slovak Basin (Juhoslovenská kotlina) and Košice Basin in the south.

Subdivision

The Slovak Ore Mountains do not have a central ridge - they consist of several independent sections: The North-Borsod Karst lies in northern Hungary.

Characteristics

Basic data: Since this is a very extensive gemorpholical unit, no general characteristics is possible.

The geomorphological structure is varied and has crystalline, Mezozoic and volcanic rocks.

Since times immemorial, especially in the Early Modern Times, (as the name suggests) this has been an area of heavy mining activities, but most of the material is exhausted nowadays.
