Encyclopedia : S : SM : SME : Smethwick Galton Bridge railway station
Smethwick Galton Bridge is a railway station in Smethwick, West Midlands, England.
It is situated where two lines cross at different levels: the line from Birmingham Snow Hill to Stourbridge Junction crosses over the West Coast Main Line by means of a bridge. There are four platforms, two on each line. The present station opened in 1995, when the line from Birmingham Snow Hill reopened.
Central Trains manage the station and operate almost all of its services. The high level platforms have trains every ten minutes (Monday-Saturday daytime) from Stourbridge Junction via Birmingham Snow Hill to Dorridge or Shirley. Many of these services commence from Great Malvern, Worcester Foregate Street or Kidderminster, and many continue to either Stratford-upon-Avon or Leamington Spa. Additionally, Chiltern Railways services from Kidderminster to London Marylebone stop there. The low level platforms are served by a half-hourly service between Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton, and also by occasional services to Shrewsbury.
