Snoofing is a combination of the words snooping and sniffing as it relates to Wi-Fi wireless network discovery. Snooping is the act of capturing Wi-Fi packets surreptitiously, where as sniffing is the act of looking for Wi-Fi wireless networks.

The legality of wireless snoofing is questionable in the United States given the somewhat questionable legality of sniffing and the very questionable legality of snooping.
