"Snowball Effect" is a SpongeBob SquarePants episode from season three. The Snowball Effect is also the title of a famous short story by Katherine MacLean. Brief summary: It starts snowing in Bikini Bottom, and SpongeBob and Patrick have a snowball fight. Squidward thinks that snowball fights are immature until he participates, then he finds out how fun they are.

Plot

As an iceberg travels across the surface of the water to Bikini Bottom, the temperature goes lower and lower, until it snows. Everyone is having fun, even Squidward. Most of the people are creating ice-sculptures or engaging in snowball fights, but Squidward is relaxing at home with a cup of tea. For entertainment, he is watching SpongeBob and Patrick's snowball fight, hoping that either one will get injured. He is accidentally hit, and decides to join in the fight. He makes a small fort and hits everyone with snowballs. SpongeBob and Patrick sign a peace treaty, and go against Squidward. After they figure out that Squidward is taking it far too seriously, SpongeBob and Patrick go away, leaving Squidward to wreak havoc.

Trivia

• At the end of the episode, when SpongeBob and Patrick are watching TV, they are watching the news.
• This marks the fourth appearence of snow in the show. The first three were in Bubble Buddy, Christmas Who?, and Survival of the Idiots.
• When the saw and hammer sounds are played, in the first scene Patrick was making the hammer sound and SpongeBob is making the saw sounds and their actions are also as such, but in the second scene, the close-ups, the situations are vice-versa.
