Soccernet.com is a website owned by ESPN, a subsidiary of Disney. It deals with football (soccer), and covers primarily the top leagues around Europe (particularly the English Premiership) and Major League Soccer in the United States. The website has a section for live scores which are updated regularly, with statistics, ranging from the top European leagues, South American league to the A-league and international games. It also does intensive coverage of major international football events such as the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Championship.
The website was formerly co-owned by Daily Mail and Sportsline Europe, a division of CBS, before the latter decided to split and start up its own comprehensive football website in July 1999 [link]. The Walt Disney Group stepped in to take a controlling stake of Soccernet in August 1999 [link] with plans for it to be the launchpad of ESPN's international operations. Subsequently, in August 2000, Disney bought over the remainder of Daily Mail's shares in the website [link].
