Solca

Encyclopedia : S : SO : SOL : Solca

Solca is a town in Suceava County, Bukovina, Romania, with a population of 4,687.

Its name is derived from the name of the river that flows through it, and is derived from Slavic "sol", meaning salt, suggesting the salted springs of the area.

The town was first mentioned in a document of Alexandru cel Bun on 15 January 1418. Later, Solca became a market town, but was completely destroyed during World War I because of the fightings between the Austrian and Russian armies.
