Solihull Borough are an English football team from Solihull, currently playing in the Southern League Division One Midlands.
They were founded in 1953, by Mr Joe McGorian. They started to play in the suberb of Olton, under the name of Lincoln FC. Their ground was based on Widney Lane.
After changing their name to Solihull Borough, they were promoted to the Midland Combination in 1969, and then up to the Southern Football League in 1985.
In 1989, bad finances forced the club to sell there Widney Lane Ground, and eventually agreed a ground share with their local rivals, Moor Green. In 1993, Solihull managed to get to the First Round of the FA Cup, but lost out to fellow non-leaguers VS Rugby.
In 1995, Solihull won the Birmingham Senior Cup for the first time, and managed to beat four league sides on their way to the final, Birmingham City, West Bromwich Albion, and Walsall all were beaten by Borough, before Aston Villa fell in the final.
During the 1997/98 season, Solihull reached the FA Cup First Round for the second time in their history. This time they drew with Darlington at Darlington, before losing in a dramatic final back at home.
In 1998, Solihull moved to the home ground of Redditch United, before they finally found their own home ground, with the purchase of the Damson Parkway site, where their current stadium, Damson Park, stands.
Under the management of Paul Holleran, a 7th place finish would see Solihull win promotion the new Southern League Premier Division at the end of the 2003/04 season. With just eight games remaining, Holleran resigned. With promotion still in the balance, assistant manager Guy Russell was promoted to manager. After a tense victory over Cinderford Town saw Solihull secure 7th place, and promotion.
The 2004/05 season was always going to be an uphill struggle, and Solihull finished bottom in the Southern League Premier Division.
The Executive Board consists of Trevor Stevens (Chairman), Joe Murphy (Secretary), and John France (Treasurer).
