Solvay is an international chemical and pharmaceutical company. It was founded in 1863 by Ernest Solvay to produce sodium carbonate by the solvay process. Since then it has diversified to three major sectors of activity: Pharmaceuticals, Chemicals and Plastics .

Solvay has changed radically in recent years, into a group focused on competitiveness, leadership and high added value activities, aimed at sustained and profitable growth and fed by a passion for innovation.

Solvay, which operates in Pharmaceuticals, Chemicals and Plastics, generated EUR 8.6 billion of sales in 2005 from more than 400 units in over 50 countries. Almost 30 000 people, 2 650 of them in research, apply their talents daily to satisfying the Group’s 160 000 clients.
