Songkhla (Thai สงขลา) is a town in southern Thailand, near the border to Malaysia. Geographical location . As of 2006 it had a population of 35,741.
Despite being smaller than the neighboring city Hat Yai, Songkhla is the capital of Songkhla Province as well as the Mueang Songkhla district.
Due to its location at the opening of the big Songkhla lake to the Gulf of Thailand, Songkhla is a fishing town and also an important harbour.
Songkhla was sometimes known as Singgora.
In December 1941, the Japanese army landed here and towards the west.
