Sonus is a Latin word which means "noise, sound" or "tone, character, style". It is also the root word for sonic and sound.

Therefore, it was an insirational word for many well known companies and other words such as:

Sony(from the combination of two words: sonus and sonny-boys, which is a Japanese slang for whiz kid.)
