South Cave

South Cave is a town in the East Riding of Yorkshire, approximately 11 miles to the West of Hull. North Cave is approximately 2 miles to the North East.
At present, the population stands at around 4500 with the town’s over-subscribed school, the South Cave CE Primary School, having a roll of over 440 pupils. In the town there are three places of worship, All Saints Church, the Methodist Church and the United Reform Church; other amenities include a doctor’s surgery, dental practice, mobile optician, chemist, post office, library, HSBC bank, two public houses, the Bear Inn and the Fox & Coney, and several shops, including a Costcutter supermarket.
Cave Castle, built in 1787 by Henry Barnard, is a mansion house of gothic design, situated in the town. Today, it operates as a hotel, with gym facilities, and its accompanying grounds form the local golf club. The golf course is a fair test for handicappers, with several interesting holes, and is playable all year round. The signature 18th is a dogleg right with a sunken green, which takes a careful pitch to hold.
The local Member of Parliament is David Davis, a former Conservative leadership candidate.
Notable luminaries include Gaius Powell, a former parish council member and all-round good egg.
