South Kingstown is a town in Washington County, Rhode Island, United States. The population was 27,921 at the 2000 census.

Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 206.6 km² (79.8 mi²). 147.9 km² (57.1 mi²) of it is land and 58.7 km² (22.7 mi²) of it (28.43%) is water.There are several villages within the town, most notably: Wakefield, Peace Dale, Kingston, West Kingston, Matunuck and Green Hill.
Area wise, South Kingstown is the largest town in Rhode Island (possibly Coventry but this is unconfirmed).
Demographics
As of the census² of 2000, there were 27,921 people, 9,268 households, and 6,394 families residing in the town. The population density was 188.8/km² (489.0/mi²). There were 11,291 housing units at an average density of 76.4/km² (197.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 91.11% White, 1.57% African American, 1.61% Native American, 3.08% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.73% from other races, and 1.86% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.77% of the population.There were 9,268 households out of which 34.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.4% were married couples living together, 9.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.0% were non-families. 24.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.07.
In the town the population was spread out with 22.5% under the age of 18, 19.8% from 18 to 24, 24.4% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 11.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 90.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.5 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $56,325, and the median income for a family was $67,912. Males had a median income of $50,519 versus $31,087 for females. The per capita income for the town was $23,827. About 3.1% of families and 5.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.9% of those under age 18 and 5.0% of those age 65 or over.
