The South Texas Medical Center is a conglomerate of numerous major hospitals, clinics, and research and higher educational institutions, located in San Antonio, Texas. The center is the largest such center in South Texas.

The center is responsible for the $14 Billion biomedical industry thriving in the San Antonio area.[link]

According to the San Antonio Medical Foundation, at least $141 million in capital projects are currently in progress in the Medical Center and an additional $169 million worth of new projects are expected to be completed by 2009.

Central to the medical center is the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and [University Hospital], which is the source of employment for 12,000 people. Other notable centers are The [Audie Murphy VA Hospital], [Cancer Therapy & Research Center], [Texas Cancer Clinic], the [Children's Cancer Research Institute], [CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital-Medical Center], CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Rehabilitation Hospital, Villa Rosa, [St Luke], [Texas Neurosciences Institute], 11 Methodist hospitals, and dozens of medical research institutes.

In 2003, 26,757 persons were employed at the center and the combined budget of all entities at the South Texas Medical Center totaled $2.5 Billion.[link]
