South Vietnamese đồng

The đồng was the currency of the Republic of Vietnam, independent of the North Vietnamese đồng. It was issued in 1955 to replace the French Indochinese piastre at par and was ended in 1975 to be replaced by the liberation đồng at 1 liberation đồng = 500 SV Đong.

It is reported that all but a few examples of the 50 đồng coins were disposed of as scrap metal. It is very rare.

- 2nd series 1955: 1, 5, 10, 20(1956), 100(1960), 200(1958), 500(1962), 1000 đồng.
- 3rd series 1964: 1, 20 and 500 đồng.
- 4th series 1966: 50, 100, 200 and 500 đồng.
- 5th series 1969: 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000 đồng.
- 6th series 1972: 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000, 5000(1975), 10.000 đồng (1975).
Value
In 1968 the value of the đồng to the U.S. Dollar was VRD 80 =USD 1. By 1975, it had inflated to VRD 500 =USD 1.External links
