Soybean wax

Encyclopedia : S : SO : SOY : Soybean wax

Soybean wax replaces petroleum wax for the candle, packaging and medical fiber industries. It was created by inventor Michael Richards in 1993, becoming the first wax innovation in the candle industry for over a hundred years.

Proponents of soybean wax point out that it offers a more sustainable alternative to traditional petroleum wax, provides a boost to agricultural economies, and releases less toxins into the air when burnt as a candle. As the decline for the need of candle light was overtaken by the invention of the electric light blub, candles became used more for leisure and comfort introducing scented wax. Soy wax is able to contain these oil scents in stronger portions.
