Spiral Galaxy M109

Messier 109 (also known as NGC 3992 or M109 for short) is a barred spiral galaxy about 41 million light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major. Located in the Ursa Major North group of galaxies, it was discovered by Pierre Méchain in 1781.
A supernova (SN 1956A) was observed in Messier 109 which was the first and only supernova to be observed in Messier 109.
Being a barred spiral galaxy, M109 resembles the Milky Way in appearance.
