Spock Must Die! (ISBN 0553246348) is a non-canonical novel by James Blish released in 1970.
Captain Kirk and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise find themselves in the middle of a war with the Klingon Empire. The Organians should be consulted about the war, but their entire planet has disappeared; it may have been destroyed.Scotty has figured out a way to use tachyons to get a "copy" of Mr. Spock through the interference field surrounding Orgainia to inform the all-powerful beings who live there, but something has gone terribly wrong: There are now two Mr. Spocks. Eventually, one of them turns out to be an evil saboteur and has to be destroyed... but which one?
The novel, the first non-canon work to have been officially sanctioned by Paramount Pictures for publication, is notable for an elementary public exposure of tachyon theory.
For a similar dupilication of Captain Kirk, see The Enemy Within.
