Spode Museum

Encyclopedia : S : SP : SPO : Spode Museum

The Spode Museum is a pottery museum based in Stoke-on-Trent, England, based around the history of the Spode ceramics factory.

The museum is believed to have been established around 1925, based on the history of Spode pottery from the time of Josiah Spode (1733–1797) to the present. The museum became a charitable trust in 1987.

In 1996, a new museum was created within the Spode Visitor Centre. It is open free of charge to the public. The collection displays many wares by Josiah Spode I and II, including underglaze blue printing and the invention of bone china, two of the most important developments that they achieved.
