It was founded by Robert F. Spohrer and Norwood S. Wilner in 1990. As of 2006 Spohrer Wilner had 15 attorneys. Spohrer Wilner specializes in litigation with a further emphasis on aircraft accidents, motor vehicle and tire defects, medical malpractice, and defective products.
In 1996 the firm won the first modern trial against tobacco manufacturers, Carter v. Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company. The trial was nationally televised and widely discussed. Documents obtained from the tobacco companies were used to show, according to the jury's verdict, that Brown and Williamson had willfully concealed knowledge about cancer and nicotine addiction.
