Spondonacle
Encyclopedia : S : SP : SPO : Spondonacle
The spondonacle is a universal handling tool introduced by Trangia in their alcohol stove cooking sets. The word "spondonacle" is devised from the latin word spondali, meaning "man's servant". They are manufactured from aluminium and rely on unassisted leverage action to open and close.
The origins of the spondonacle are not well known, and it is possible that the tool is a culmination of many years of cooking know how. The man responsible for the design of the first of the Trangia stove sets, Markus Goughh, was known to have taken his inspiration from Meccano and Lego sets.
