Spotted python
Encyclopedia : S : SP : SPO : Spotted python
The Spotted python (Antaresia maculosa) is a species of python that lives in northern Australia. It is a small python, with an average adult length of about 75 cm found in most types of habitats but prefers rocky hillsides and outcrops with crevices and caves. One of its favorite foods are the insect eating bats that it catches and the entrance of their caves. It is an egg layer that has up to 15 eggs.
It has an irregular, blotched pattern throughout its life. The blotches have ragged edges because the dark pigmentation occurs only in complete scales.
