St. Michael's Hospital is a large teaching hospital in Toronto. It offers tertiary and quaternary care for patients throughout Ontario. The hospital specializes in many areas including therapeutic endoscopy — the Wellesley endoscopy group has relocated there — cardiovascular surgery, and inner city health.
The hospital is located near the intersections of Queen Street and Yonge Street in Downtown Toronto, and by dirth of its location, caters to many communities in Toronto, including the underprivileged of the inner city, and the gay and lesbian community of Toronto. The hospital has over 550 beds and extensive outpatient clinics.
The hospital is one of two major trauma centres in the Greater Toronto Area and is open 24 hours a day. The only other trauma centre is Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
The current Physician-in-Chief is Dr. Robert Hyland, and the Surgeon-in-Chief is Dr. Ori Rotstein.

St. Michael's Hospital was founded by the sisters of St. Joseph in 1892, with a specific goal of taking care of the sick and poor of Toronto's inner city.External link
