The St. Paul Travelers Companies, Inc. (NYSE: [STA]) is the second largest underwriter of commercial property casualty and personal insurance in the United States.

A merger between The St. Paul Companies and Travelers Property Casualty Corporation occurred on April 1, 2004 forming St. Paul Travelers. The company is headquartered in Saint Paul, Minnesota but has major operations in Hartford, Connecticut, the former headquarters of Travelers Property Casualty. There are field offices in every U.S. state, plus operations in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada and Mexico. In 2004, the company reported revenues of US$23 billion and total assets of $112 billion.

The St. Paul Travelers Companies, Inc., through its subsidiaries and nearly 11,000 agent and brokerage firms, provides commercial and personal property and casualty insurance products and services to businesses, government units, associations, and individuals in the United States. The company offers insurance through three segments, Commercial, Specialty, and Personal, primarily under the Travelers brand:

Prior to the merger, in 1998 The St. Paul Companies acquired USF&G known formerly as United States Fidelity and Guaranty Company, a Baltimore, Maryland based insurance company.

The St. Paul Companies was founded in 1853 and Travelers Property Casualty Corp. was founded in 1864.
