St. Thomas University is a Catholic institution of higher education located in Miami Gardens, Florida. The institution began as Biscayne College in 1961, when Augustinian friars operating Cuba's Universidad de Santo Tomas de Villanueva were expelled by the regime of Fidel Castro.
The University now occupies a 140 acre (570,000 m²) campus in Miami Gardens. The University offers degrees in a number of different majors, including twelve graduate degrees, and has a College of Law, established in 1984, which is currently headed by former Florida Attorney General Bob Butterworth. The institution has over 15,000 alumni, including 1,800 graduates of its law school.
The school's athletic teams play as the St. Thomas Bobcats.

- Ivette Corredero - Runner up in Big Brother 6 hit CBS TV series. While attending, she was awarded the Susan E. Sachs Scholarship by the Atlantic-Florida Chapter of The Association for Women in Communications. The award is given to top communications students, and Corredero was its first recipient. [link]
