State Road 9 is mainly the "hidden" state road number for Interstate 95 from the Georgia state line in Nassau County south to the Golden Glades Interchange near Miami. From the Golden Glades Interchange, SR 9 heads southwest to Unity Boulevard (NW 27th Avenue) near Opa-Locka. From there, FL 9 travels south on Unity Boulevard to terminate at South Dixie Highway (US 1/SR 5) southwest of downtown Miami and just east of Coral Gables.

The remainder of I-95 south of the Golden Glades Interchange is "hidden" Florida State Road 9A, not to be confused with the full beltway (also I-295 on the west side) around Jacksonville.

The part from Unity Boulevard northeast into Broward County was planned before the Interstate Highway System as a bypass to US 1. It was built next to CSX's Miami Subdivision.
