Encyclopedia : S : ST : STA : State Transit Authority of New South Wales
The State Transit Authority of New South Wales succeeded the New South Wales Urban Transport Authority in 1989. It is the NSW government owned operator of
- bus services in Sydney, Australia (Sydney Buses) and
- bus and ferry services in Newcastle, Australia (Newcastle Buses & Ferries).
Sydney's first bus-based rapid transit system - the (Liverpool to Parramatta T-way) - is operated by Western Sydney Buses, a subsidiary of the State Transit Authority. T-way buses run on both purpose-built exclusive corridors and on bus lanes on existing roads.
The State Transit Authority also previously operated Sydney Ferries until July 2004 when it became a separate corporation. Sydney Ferries is the main provider of ferry services in the Sydney public transport network.
The State Transit Authority also works closely with CityRail, the manager of greater Sydney's commuter railway service.
