- Stella Stevens is also a stage name of the adult actress Veronika Balázs.
Stella Stevens (born Estelle Caro Eggleston on October 1, 1938) is an American actress who began acting in 1959.
Biography
Stevens was born in Yazoo City, Mississippi. Some sources have indicated 1936 as the year of her birth, but that conflicts with her own biography which states she married at 15 and gave birth at 16. Using the birth year of 1938 would be consistent with her being 16 at the time of the birth of her son, Andrew, in 1955 (she turned 17 later on that year), but it is possible she shaved off two years and changed the stats to compensate.
In 1960, she was Playboy magazine's Playmate of the Month for January. In 1962 she starred opposite Elvis Presley in Girls! Girls! Girls!. In 1972 she appeared in Irwin Allen's The Poseidon Adventure as Ernest Borgnine's former hooker wife, among other acting work, much of it on TV.
In 1960 she won a Golden Globe Award for "Most Promising Newcomer - Female", which was shared with Tuesday Weld, Angie Dickinson, and Janet Munro.
In 1963 she also starred with Jerry Lewis in The Nutty Professor.
She toured with the late Sandy Dennis in a touring production of an all-female version of Neil Simon's The Odd Couple, definitely playing the messy one.
She is the mother of actor/producer Andrew Stevens, and a grandmother of three.
