Steve Fox (Tekken)
Encyclopedia : S : ST : STE : Steve Fox (Tekken)
Steve Fox is a fictional young English boxer in the fighting game series Tekken. He made his first appearance in Tekken 4 and has no memory of his past. Steve does not know the identity of his biological father or the origin of the scar on his arm.
History
Tekken 4
Steve Fox was conceived in a lab; his mother is Nina Williams, making Anna Williams his next immediate blood relative. After Nina failed to assassinate Kazuya Mishima, Heihachi Mishima captured her and used her as a test subject for cryogenic sleep studies. She gave birth to Steve during this time through in-vitro fertilization. Nina retained her youth during the cryogenic process, so she is only three years older than her son.Steve attended Oxford University, where he studied biology before becoming a professional boxer. He later fled to America to avoid the mafia after having won a fight that he was supposed to lose. He entered the King of Iron Fist Tournament 4 in an attempt to defeat the crime syndicate once and for all. Despite failing to win the tournament, he learned that Nina Williams is his mother. He also befriends Lei Wulong, who was also trying to break up the same crime sydicate in Tekken 4.
Tekken 5
Two months after the conclusion of the fourth Tekken, a fifth tournament was announced. Steve entered, this time focusing on the destruction of the Mishima Zaibatsu for "creating a monster." In his ending, he gains control of the Zaibatsu and heads to the location where he was conceived. He destroys the research data and another creation in process before setting the building on fire and walking away.Voices
In Tekken 5 Steve's voice sounded (approximately) English in Tekken 5, which contradicts the American accent he had in Tekken 4. Steve remains the only character with an accent; Craig Marduk doesn't speak with an Australian accent and Nina Williams and Anna Williams don't have any Irish inflection in their voices.Trivia
- Steve's character was originally given the name Dean Earwicker; this was met with much amusement amongst English-speakers, causing Namco to rethink and come up with a more suitable name. The name has been referenced by Namco in the Tekken series twice since; the name was then given to members of the Tekken Force in Tekken 4 and in Tekken 5, as one of the computer's Tekken Lords encountered during Arcade Mode.
- Steve Fox remains the only character in the Tekken universe to not use kicks (except in some instances where you get up after being knocked down by your opponent). The triangle, O, X and square buttons control his punch heights from gut to head level. Despite not having any kick moves, he remains a versatile character due to his speed and sidestepping abilities to "duck and weave".
- The identity of Steve's biological father remains a mystery by fans. Some sources, for example, state that Lee Chaolan could be his father, but that's impossible because he had feelings for Nina's sister Anna by the time they were in cryosleep.
