Stitch's Great Escape! is the name of an attraction located in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom of the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida USA. It is a show which takes place in a circular theater which uses audio-animatronics, enhanced with periods of utter darkness, sounds, and smells.
The show, which opened on November 16, 2004, is currently the fourth to be featured in its home pavilion. It replaces the ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter, which closed on October 12, 2003. That show replaced Mission to Mars, which replaced Flight to the Moon respectively.
Walt Disney Feature Animation produced all of the attraction's character animation. Many of the animators who worked on "Lilo & Stitch" partnered with Imagineers for Stitch's Great Escape!
Synopsis
Guests are guarding Experiment 626, more commonly known as Stitch, from the Disney animated movie "Lilo & Stitch". Strapped into harnesses, they are present while Stitch escapes his cell and proceeds to destroy the room and harass his "guards".Criticism
The attraction was designed to replace the more darkly themed ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter, which proved to be too intense for many younger guests. However, the new show's special effects and prolonged periods of darkness continue to scare many children. Since opening, the height restriction has increased from 35" to 40". The attraction has also come under attack for being painful on the shoulders due to its tight-fitting shoulder restraints.
Reviews
While the ride is a technological marvel, Stitch's Great Escape, has recieved lukewarm reviews from nearly every website and magazine. Recieving only a 4 out of 10 on the Theme Park Insider website, the ride has come under fire, causing people to wonder why it replaced the critically acclaimed Extra TERRORestrial Alien Encounter.Attraction facts
