Stone Cold Crazy is a song by the rock group Queen from their third album (and second 1974 album) Sheer Heart Attack.

The song was written during singer Freddie Mercury's time with a short-lived college band called Wreckage. Queen played it live as early as 1972, apparently as the first song they performed on stage [link] and, in late 1974, they finally decided to record it onto an album. Since no one could remember who wrote it, it was credited to all four members of the band.

The music is very heavy metal based, and unusually fast for the pre-Punk rock era, making it a precursor to the sub-genres of speed and thrash metal. Songs such as this one influenced metal bands for years to come. The lyrics are about gangsters - Al Capone is even mentioned in the song.

The band Metallica covered this song in 1990 and subsequently won a Grammy Award for their version. It was also covered by Eleven featuring Josh Homme for the 2005 compilation .

The song was re-produced by Trent Reznor and released in the form of a promotional single in 1992.
