Stuart Rachels (born September 26, 1969) tied for first place in the U.S. Chess Championship in 1989.

Rachels grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, and attended school at Emory University, the University of Oxford, and Syracuse University.

After becoming a chess master when he was 11 years old, he tied for first place in the U.S. Chess Championship in 1989. He retired in 1993 from chess and became a professor.

He now teaches at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in the Philosophy Department.
