Sturgeon River (Ontario)

There are two Sturgeon Rivers in Ontario:

The Sturgeon River in the Nipissing District empties into the north shore of Lake Nipissing. It is 177 km long. Ontario Power Generation operates a hydroelectric plant on the river at Crystal Falls. The town of Sturgeon Falls is located on the river. From 1848 to 1879, the Hudson's Bay Company operated a fur trading post called Sturgeon River House on this river. Up until the middle of the 20th century, the river was used to transport logs to sawmills on Lake Nipissing.

Tributaries of the Sturgeon River are:

• Obabika River
• Chiniguchi River
• Temagami River

The Sturgeon River in the Kenora District in northwestern Ontario flows from Sturgeon Lake to Marchington Lake and eventually drains into Hudson Bay by way of the English River.
