Alastor is a character from the Capcom video game series Viewtiful Joe.
Alastor, an electrical demon from the Underworld, is an agent of the Jadow organization that uses the nickname "The Midnight Thunderboy" and is codenamed "Blade Master". Though he is with the Jadow, Alastor doesn't give much thought about his position, but instead longs to seek out "the ultimate battle", and can be considered an "anti-hero" to an extent. He sees himself as the arch-rival of Viewtiful Joe, and always appears with the intent to defeat him.
In all games he appears as a purple costumed man with a horned helmet, wings, and tail, resembling a demon in appearance. He mainly fights with electrical attacks but is also known to use a sword in battle. He pilots the giant robot dubbed "Rex Majin" to counter Joe's "Six Majin" robot.
In the games, Alastor is voiced by Mikey Kelley. In the anime, he's voiced by Ross Lawrence.

Alastor in Viewtiful Joe
In the first game, Alastor first meets Joe under the disguise of "Another Joe", but drops the act and escapes after losing the fight. Later, Joe and Alastor meet outside the Jadow base, where Alastor speaks of the Jadow's plans to "his friendly neighborhood rival". Despite losing, he is in awe of Joe's "Viewtiful" fighting skills.Alastor can also be unlocked as a playable character. His play mechanics are similar to Joe, but has the strongest attacks in the game and has the ability to double jump in normal mode. You have to press a button to 'Devil Trigger' him into Viewtiful mode, in which he can use his VFX powers. However, being in Devil mode causes an auto drain effect on his meter whether or not VFX powers are being used. The upside is that when you use his powers the drain carries on at the same rate (unlike the other characters where it speeds up if you combine powers). It should also be noted that when transformed, Alastor can glide great distances, which is a mass advantage on Charles, Hulk, Leo and King Blue in boss fights. He can fall normally when you pull down on the control stick, but will plummet even faster when using Mach Speed. When you combine Slow Mo and Mach Speed, Alastor will fly in a straight line and his fall stops dead. Upon unlocking Unlimited VFX for Alastor, some believed he was top notch and the best character in the game, this was confirmed to be true.
In his story, Alastor has to save Silvia's twin sister, Goldie (who he refers to as "Hey" or Woman). At first he shows no desire to be in a relationship with her, despite her constant flirting. In the end, however, after saving her and she gets her own V-watch, he does show some feelings for her, and they both fly off.
In Dante's story (only on the PS2 version), Alastor is the spirit of Dante's sword brought to life, and instead of reading from the game script he reads from his diary, and reads entries about how Dante did fun things without him.
Alastor in Viewtiful Joe 2
Alastor, now no longer affiliated with the Jadow, shows up for another fight in Viewtiful Joe 2. Although he loses the first fight, he gains unexpected help when Joe's father, Jet, "accidentally" starts playing "The Black Film". As a result of his powers being amplified by the film's evil, Alastor form changes into that of a demon and dubs himself "Underworld Emperor".Alastor in Viewtiful Joe: Double Trouble
Alastor also arrives for a fight in the Nintendo DS game, . The battle is in two parts: first being face to face, the second being a giant robot duel between Joe's Six Majin and Alastor's Rex Majin. After the battle he faces off against Queen Heidriella, commenting that he wishes to be the one to finally defeat Joe, and will stop anyone who tries to beat him to it.Alastor in Viewtiful Joe anime
In the anime, Alastor is pretty much the same as his video game counterpart. He works for the Jadow but lives only to fight. He also harbors a small crush on Silvia (a reference to Goldie, her twin sister, most likely), and has shown a softer side as well, wearing a ridiculous octopus (or in his words, a squid) costume to help Joe convince a sickly child in a hospital that Capt. Blue was back.Alastor's Attacks
Alastor tends to use the same variety of attacks in every game. In Viewtiful Joe Red Hot Rumble, Alastor returned as a playable character in two forms (Stylish and Blade Master) each boasting new attacks.Air Raid- Alastor fires a bolt of lightning at the ground.
Air Raid (Red Hot Rumble)''- Alastor points his hands to both sides of him and fires of two medium-long range bolts of lightning.
Round Trip- Alastor throws a series of swords around the field, which seek out and fly towards enemies. Alastor can also throw his own sword in a boomerang style attack, similar to Joe's "Voomerang" attack.
Round Trip (Red Hot Rumble)'' - Stylish Alastor tosses his sword away from him, leaving it to spin half way across the level. It then freezes in motion but gains huge amounts of RPM. It will return to Alastor shortly, damaging everything and anything in it's path. During this time Alastor can run around in an attempt to lead the sword through enemies and other players. This is very similar to Dante's Round Trip in Devil May Cry.
Stinger- A charging sword thrust.
Vortex- Similar to Joe's zoomed-in jump attacks, Alastor can spin upward into enemies or towards the ground to create electric shockwaves. It is identical in Red Hot Rumble, except it can be used to slide along the ground.
Ultraviolet Kick- Alastor's version of Joe's "Red Hot Kick".
Air Hike- Not an attack, but rather a double jump. Unlike other characters, Alastor can double jump without transforming.
High Voltage- Alastor summons a series of hovering blocks which generate beams of violet lightning.
Trivia
Alastor (the character) is based off of the powers of the Alastor sword, a quasi-sentient demon sword used by Dante, the main character in the popular PS2 game Devil May Cry. Viewtiful Joe was created by Hideki Kamiya, the same man who created Devil May Cry so the references are intentional. Some referances with Alastor are actually referances to moments in Devil May Cry, in example, the scene were Alastor turns into his Underworld Emperor (which bears a very striking resemblance to DMC counterpart) he turns into a sword and spins at Joe, who dodges him narrowly. This happens in Devil May Cry, even the opening line for that scene is the same, however, Dante is impaled, but it doesn't hurt him as he's a demon.See also
