Encyclopedia : S : SU : SUB : Suburban Commando

Suburban Commando is a 1991 science fiction film starring Hulk Hogan (Terry Bollea) and directed by Burt Kennedy.

Hulk Hogan plays Shep Ramsey, an interstellar hero whose spacecraft is damaged after a battle. He is forced to crashland on the planet Earth and wait for his spaceship to repair itself. He rents a room from the Wilcox family, and stays there for a time. When the father, Charlie Wilcox (played by Christopher Lloyd), finds Ramsey's gun and sets it off, a duo of intergalactic bounty hunters come to hunt Ramsey down. Ramsey must protect the family he has grown to care for, while trying to get off of Earth.

Trivia

Hulk Hogan was reluctant to take on the role until reading the section of the script that described him assisting a child in an arcade to beat a video game. He described in an interview that beating "Dragos" became so important to him that he was willing to invest 2 years in the movie in order to symbolically defeat this enemy.

The film was originally titled "Urban Commando", and intended for Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger. When these two opted to make Twins (1988), the script was bought by New Line Cinema as the follow-up to another Hulk Hogan film, No Holds Barred (1989).

Cast

Hulk Hogan, Christopher Lloyd, Shelley Duvall, Larry Miller, William Ball, Jo Ann Dearing, Jack Elam, Roy Dotrice.

Playing bounty hunter 'Hutch' was Mark Calaway, better known as WWF's "Undertaker".
