Suffield Township is one of eighteen civil townships in Portage County, Ohio, United States. It is located in the southwestern corner of the county, and borders or touches the following other townships and municipalities: Suffield Township is formed from the Connecticut Western Reserve. Stan Shanafelt is one of the township's long-time residents. He has lived there all his life. Born in 1925, he grew up on a farm on St. Rt. 43. His grandfather, Ira, ran the general store. George Stout took over the general store in the 1940s or 1950s. Minnie Stout was one of the founders of the WCTU. As of 2000, there were 6,383 people in the township. (Note: The U.S. Census Bureau counts township populations in the Connecticut Western Reserve as distinct from any municipalities located within the township.
