Suicide Solution

Encyclopedia : S : SU : SUI : Suicide Solution

"Suicide Solution" is a song by Ozzy Osbourne. It is track five on the album Blizzard of Ozz released in 1981. Guitarist Randy Rhoads wrote the riff to the song, and Osbourne wrote the lyrics. Ozzy Osbourne released this track as a tribute to Bon Scott of AC/DC who died of alcohol and drug abuse, although Bob Daisley, bass guitarist for the Osbourne, says that Ozzy was having an extremely hard time of his own at that point.

The song was very controversial following its release, and in the mid-1980's Ozzy Osbourne was taken to court by parents of two young boys who shot themselves while listening to this song. Although the court cleared the case, many listeners continue to try to discern what Ozzy says part way through the song. Bob Daisley and Ozzy Osbourne both claim that Ozzy says "Get the flaps out" referring to a part of the female anatomy. However, some claim that Ozzy says "Get the glass shoot" or "Get the gun shoot", both of which support the court case.

The song is also famous for Randy Rhoads' solo at the end of the song on the live album Tribute; this solo originated from Rhoads's Quiet Riot days in which he performed this song part way through Laughing Gas (solo), the original solo was over 6 minutes and contained references to "Goodbye To Romance", "Mr. Crowley", and "William Tell Overture", although the solo he performed with Ozzy was just over 2 minutes.
