SummerSlam 2001 was the fourteenth annual SummerSlam professional wrestling pay-per-view event from the World Wrestling Federation. It took place on August 19, 2001 in the Compaq Center located in San Jose, California.

The theme used around this pay-per-view was that off The Alliance invasion where it pitted all the WWF superstars to face off against their former rival promotions World Championship Wrestling and Extreme Championship Wrestling.

Results

Sunday Night Heat - Six-Woman Tag Team match: (Team WWF) Lita, Jacqueline and Molly Holly def. (Team Alliance) Torrie Wilson, Stacy Keibler and Ivory
  • Jacqueline pinned Ivory.
  • *This match was originally scheduled to be a handicap match between Lita and Jacqueline vs. Stacy, Ivory and Torrie.
  • *Torrie Wilson and Stacy Keibler attacked Lita from behind backstage making Lita questionable for her matchup.
  • *Jacqueliine ended up being in the match alone until Molly Holly came down to the ring to help her.
  • *By the end of the match, Lita had made it to the ring and hit the Twist of Fate on Ivory for Jacqueline to get the win.
  • *Paul Heyman got into the ring and said that the WWF women had cheated to get their win over the women of the Alliance.

  • *Edge pinned Lance Storm. (11:16)
  • **Christian interfered in the match and was going to Spear Lance, but he missed Lance and hit Edge. When Christian turned around, Lance Superkicked him.
  • **Edge turned the match in favor of him hitting Lance with the DDT and got the pin.
  • Six-Man Tag Team match: (Team Alliance) The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray and D'Von Dudley) and Test def. (Team WWF) The APA (Faarooq and Bradshaw) and Spike Dudley (w/ Molly Holly)
  • *Test pinned Bradshaw. (7:18)
  • **Test had recently joined Team Alliance, betraying Team WWF, stating there was no loyalty the the World Wrestling Federation.
  • **Spike Dudley had just returned from a broken leg which was focused on the whole match by his opponents.
  • **Shane McMahon came down to the ring and hit Bradshaw in the head with a chair allowing Test to cover him for the pinfall.
  • WWF Light Heavyweight Championship and WCW Cruiserweight Championship Unification match: (Team WWF) X-Pac - Light-Heavyweight Champion def. (Team WWF) Tajiri - Crusierweight Champion
  • X-Pac pinned Tajiri. (7:32)
  • *During the end of the match, Albert came down to the ring to distract Tajiri. Tajiri spit red mist into his face. The distraction was enough time for X-Pac to recover to hit the X-Factor on Tajiri for the pinfall.

  • (Team WWF) Chris Jericho def. (Team Alliance) Rhyno
  • *Jericho defeated Rhyno via submission. (11:46)
  • **The finish cam when Rhyno attempted The Gore, he missed and hit the turnbuckle. Afterwards, Jericho then locked in the Walls of Jericho and forced Rhyno to tap.
  • '''Ladder match for the Hardcore Championship: (Team Alliance) Rob Van Dam def. (Team WWF) Jeff Hardy (c)
  • *Rob Van Dam won when he climbed the ladder to retrieve the title. (16:31)
  • **The finish cam when both were on the top of the ladder. At the top, Jeff Hardy powerbombed RVD off. Jeff reclimbed the ladder. When RVD got up, he removed the ladder from under Jeff Hardy's feet.
  • **Jeff then was suspended in the air only by hanging on to the rope. Jeff couldn't hold on anymore and fell down to the ring without the title. RVD recovered, climbed the ladder and got the title.

  • **About mid-match Kanyon escaped the cage, but that only won the match for half of his team, as Page would have also escaped the cage to fully win the match.
  • **It turned into a handicap match after Kanyon left, leaving Page to fight Undertaker and Kane by himself.
  • **Kane and Undertaker gave Page the Chokeslam and The Last Ride (respectively) and covered him for the pinfall.
  • '''WWF Championship match: (Team WWF) Kurt Angle def. (Team Alliance) "Stone Cold" Steve Austin (c)
  • *Angle defeated Austin by disqualification, thus Austin retained the championship. (22:31)
  • **Austin was frustrated with the constant near-falls that kept occuring in the match.
  • **Austin then assulted every referee he saw: Earl Hebner, Mike Chioda and Tim White. Then, Alliance referee Nick Patrick came down ring and disqualified Austin for referee abuse.
  • '''WCW World Heavyweight Championship match: (Team WWF) The Rock pinned (Team Alliance) Booker T (w/ Shane McMahon)
  • *The Rock pinned Booker T. (15:18)
  • **At mid-match, Shane grabbed the WCW Championship and when the referee was distracted, he smashed the title over The Rock's head.
  • **That resulted in The APA, for the mean time, running Shane McMahon out from ringside.
  • **Booker T was in the middle of celebrating when he turned around into The Rock Bottom and The Rock made the pinfall.
